Party Planner: Preppy Backyard Picnic

It started to cool down in DC this week, making it bearable to be outside again (And yes, 85 now feels chilly compared to 105!). My favorite summer activity is having friends over for a casual get together in our yard, when its pleasant to be outside. We’ve collected some staples over our summers so that we’re able to throw something together on short notice while still looking classier than paper plates & solo cups!

I love classic preppy pieces in bright summer colors to host a wine & cheese party or backyard barbeque. The first thing to do is buy outdoor furniture that is comfortable & inviting for social situations.

Classic pieces as your base with fun lights or pillows that can be changed out when you’re bored of a specific color or pattern!

Having serving pieces on hand make your party seem fancy even if you just grabbed whatever was in the fridge to put out. We usually bring out our dishes if we need plates but a lot of the time we’re serving appetizers or cheese so just need a variety of platters or bowls.

What’s your favorite way to entertain at home in the summer?

  1. Ahh, if only I had a backyard. I would totally pick up these things! And I agree, 85º has been blissfully chilly after 100º+ weather here in Columbus.
