Screen Style: The New Girl

Here’s a fashion confession: I struggle looking through fashion magazines. Its hard for me to translate the gorgeously stylized photos to real life clothing.

So while thinking about where I get most of my fashion ideas I realized it was either from prestigious publications like US Weekly or from television & movies.

{I apparently need things more obviously put together to copy from than abstract fashion shoots!}

And like every other twentysomething female, my current love is The New Girl’s Zooey Deschanel.

Like Zooey in real life, Jess’ outfits are adorable & don’t cross over that fine line into costume-y. And if “quirky” is not a word used to describe yourself often there are simple things to add to your wardrobe to feel more like Zooey/Jess without going full on floppy bow in the hair.

{Probably not the look to command respect from my high schoolers!}

My new favorite site (that you’ve probably figured out by now) is Ruche & is the perfect place for vintage inspired dresses & accessories that also feel modern. Perfectly Zooey!

Where do you get fashion/outfit inspiration?

  1. I love that show! She’s adorable!

    I didn’t start watching The New Girl, but I hear lots of great things. I like how you’ve selected some style elements from Zooey Deschanel’s character!

    I look to classic preppy styles, Sarah Vickers’ blog, and 1960s imagery to inspire what I wear, though it doesn’t hurt that most any outfit in the J.Crew catalog I would easily pick up and wear. šŸ™‚ That being said, I’m trying to move away from J.Crew in favor of different, smaller retailers.

  3. Annie says:

    Definitely love Jess’ style! And the show is freaking hilarious šŸ™‚
