To Read… or To Watch?

I have been reading a lot of books lately that have been turned into movies.

{Not quite sure where the theme has come from, especially since I’m not always watching the movies along with the books.}

I thought it would be fun to compare some of the ones I’ve read in the past year or two to summarize my recent kick!

As its my favorite movie, I’m a little biased. Audrey brings more charm to the character of Holly Golightly & makes her more likeable. I’m not sure if that is really how Truman Capote wanted her to come off but its hard for me to like the short story more!

While the novel is better, I though the movie was fairly accurate & a decent version. I am not sure about its Best Picture worthy but it was enjoyable, I love Emma Stone, & Octavia Spencer certainly deserved her Oscar. (Viola Davis is also pretty amazing).

The movie is a HUGE letdown. It misses all the nuances of the story that makes the book so compelling & gives away the mystery of these students right away. The book leaves you guessing a bit until the end, making the story that much richer. One of my favorite books but the movie makes the story really drab.

I hated all the characters, so it makes it hard to like either version. I think I’ll go with the movie though because at least you can stare at Josh Duhamal.

Another of my favorite books! I enjoyed the movie even if it got bad reviews & loved Reese Witherspoon in it. Again, pretty closely follows the book for the main storyline & her dresses are really pretty. Still, the book is better.

I read this awhile ago- definitely a different book but really thought provoking. The movie was a small, independent film that was also pretty good. Neither would be a favorite but they were both good enough to recommend, especially for a book club.

I have not seen the movie but am just finishing the book. I’ve heard the movie is depressing- the book is good & I can see why it would be really hard to translate this into a film. Not sure if I want to see the movie or not- any recommendations?

If you have not read these books by now you need to get on it immediately! They are so good & the movie is all anyone will be talking about this spring. I cannot wait to see it!

Any favorites that you have where you like the film more?

    I can’t wait to see The Hunger Games! Although I don’t love them more than the books, I do think Harry Potter movies lived up to my very high expectations, especially since there was a gap between reading the books and seeing the movies, which always helps me not be as picky about details. 😉

    Good post…I tend not to go to the movie if I have read the book…

    I do not recommend One Day. The movie was so depressing! The book was definitely better. I really wanted this to be good because I love Anne Hathaway, but it was dissapointing!
